“But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.”~ John 1:12-13.

We often hear that God loves us as His children (1 John 3:1). Yet, this truth rarely sinks deep into our hearts. As a result, many Christians struggle with their identity in Christ because they do not fully understand their new birth.

However, when you truly grasp who you are in Christ, everything changes.

Your self-image and your entire relationship with Him will grow much deeper. In fact, you will experience these amazing shifts in your daily life:

Greater confidence in your walk as a Christian.

More power flowing in your prayer life.

Deeper security during any challenge you may face.

True courage when facing your fears

Supernatural peace as you handle your sufferings

An unexpected boldness you never imagined you had

Genuine love and acceptance for yourself

Godly confidence in your unique purpose in life.

How do you know who you are in Christ?

To find this identity, you must first fully understand and receive God’s unconditional love. You have to accept yourself the way God accepts you (Romans 15:7). This deep knowing will come from reading the Bible regularly. You must believe in your heart that what has been written in God’s Word is written for you.

Once you know who Christ says you are and believe it with all your heart, everything changes. You won’t spend your whole life searching for approval from other people. Instead, you will have the confidence that you are perfectly made in His image.

Who does Christ say I am?

If you look at Scripture, you will see exactly how God views you. The Bible tells us that :

God calls you His masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10).

The God of the universe calls you His Child (John 1:12, 1 John 3:1).

Jesus calls you His friend (John 15:14-16).

He loves you and has adopted you as His very own (Ephesians 1:5).

Therefore, you can view the Holy Bible as a love letter written directly to YOU. It is the ultimate dictionary that defines your identity in Christ. I could give example after example of verses, but the bottom line is to study the bible and open your heart to God’s love.

Until God becomes real for you personally and you understand His love for you you can’t love yourself. And until you love yourself, you can’t love others (1 John 4:19).

Taking Step One

So start at step one today. Open your bible and your heart. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you the understanding and wisdom to fully grasp God’s love for you.

“Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”~ Ephesians 3:17-19
