Bible Verses On God’s Love For You

“Though our feelings come and go, God’s love for us does not.” ~ C.S.Lewis

We all struggle from time to time sensing God’s love for us. When you feel broken down by the pressures of life you may begin to question if God really loves you (click here to read “If God loves me why am I Suffering?).

Flower pics for blog 1As a Christian, however, you ought to know that God’s love is not contingent on your emotions. There is nothing you could do that would change His love for you (Romans 5:8).

When I first committed my life to Jesus (you can read my story here), I wrongly believed that if I was “a good girl” God would be pleased with me, but that if I made a mistake He would be mad at me and even punish me. I had put Jesus’s love in a box. I’m so grateful that I have learned (and am still learning) that His love for us is unconditional.

This doesn’t mean that there won’t be consequences to your poor choices, because there will be. However, this is only God’s divine discipline because He loves you so much (Hebrews 12:6, Proverbs 3:12).

No matter how strong your faith is, however, there will be days that you feel weary. You simply need to read His promises to refresh your soul. Here are some Bible verses for those moments where you just need to be reassured of His amazing love for  you. As you read His promises, may you allow His love to lavish your heart.

Genesis 28:15

What’s more, I am with you, and I will protect you wherever you go. One day I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have finished giving you everything I have promised you.

1 Samuel 16:7

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

Psalm 94:14,19,22

14 The Lord will not reject his people;
he will not abandon his special possession.

19 When doubts filled my mind,
your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.

22 But the Lord is my fortress;
my God is the mighty rock where I hide.

Psalm 40:1-3

1 I waited patiently for the Lord to help me,
and he turned to me and heard my cry.
2 He lifted me out of the pit of despair,
out of the mud and the mire.
He set my feet on solid ground
and steadied me as I walked along.
3 He has given me a new song to sing,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see what he has done and be amazed.
They will put their trust in the Lord.

Psalm 143:8

Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning,
    for I am trusting you.
Show me where to walk,
for I give myself to you.

Ephesians 3:17-20

17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. 18 And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. 19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.20 Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.

Psalm 17:7-8

7 Show me your unfailing love in wonderful ways.
By your mighty power you rescue
those who seek refuge from their enemies.
8 Guard me as you would guard your own eyes.
Hide me in the shadow of your wings.

Zephaniah 3:17

For the Lord your God is living among you.
    He is a mighty savior.
He will take delight in you with gladness.
With his love, he will calm all your fears.
He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.
1 Corinthians 13:7
Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

Hebrews 13:5

Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said,

“I will never fail you.
    I will never abandon you.”
Psalm 27:10
Even if my father and mother abandon me,
the Lord will hold me close.

Luke 12:6-7

6 “What is the price of five sparrows—two copper coins? Yet God does not forget a single one of them. 7 And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.

Revelation 21:4

He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.

These are a few of the many verses that speak on God’s love for you. God loves you deeply. I encourage you to keep your heart open towards how He may be expressing His love to you uniquely (Click here to read my blog post, “How I Know He Loves Me”). If you are in a challenging season of life you may be tempted to question His love for you. It is precisely at these times you need to walk by faith, believing in a God of love.

Please feel free to share in a comment below what your favorite Bible verse on God’s love is.

“God says to you, ‘I’ve never quit loving you and never will. Expect love, love, and more love!’” ~ Jeremiah 31:3 (The Message translation).

Thank you for this word. I especially loved
    Psalm 40:1-3

and he turned to me and heard my cry.
2 He lifted me out of the pit of despair,
out of the mud and the mire.

3 He has given me a new song to sing,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see what he has done and be amazed.
They will put their trust in the Lord.

I hurt my knee so bad the day before we came to Mexico that I needed crutches or a wheel chair to navigate. I received a cortisone shot shortly before departing. It has been a long slow process to take effect. But today for the first time I am able to walk slowly without the cane. I am praising Jesus for my healing!

Tweeny, thank you for such an important and powerful message. It is God’s love that gives me joy, strength, courage and faith. One of my favorite Scriptures is John 3:16 – what incredible love He has for us to give His one and only Son!
