Stepping Into God’s Grace

Will is to grace as the horse is to the rider. ~ Augustine

Imagine a waterfall flowing, cascading down gently, softly, and yet full of intentionality, intensity and strength.  This is how I see God’s grace to be like.

All we have to do is step under it, be still, and allow God to lavish us with His abundant grace. Grace is God’s unconditional love for us that we do not deserve, but that He wants to give to us because He is love.  God’s grace is a gift that we only just have to accept.

God wants us to surrender to His grace. He wants us to rely on Him and not on our selves.

God wants us to lean on His strength and to be comfortable in our weaknesses.

God’s desire is that His grace be all that you need because His power works best in your weakness (2 Corinthians 12:1-10).

Surrendering to God’s grace is being able to say, sincerely from your heart,  “I need you Lord and I trust You with my life. Not my will but Your will be done.”

Sometimes it is hard to step under His overflowing unconditional love and acceptance of us. We feel unworthy of it. We feel we have to do something and earn God’s approval.

We feel uncomfortable with receiving God’s grace.

Grace means there is nothing I can do to make God love me more, and nothing I can do to make God love me less ~ Philip Yancey.

The truth is we don’t have to do anything except open our hearts to Jesus Christ and invite Him to take control over our lives.

Stepping into God’s grace begins with surrendering your life over to your Creator – the One that knows you better than you know yourself.

Stepping into God’s grace means surrendering your fears, your anger, your unforgiveness, your doubts, your pride, your shame, your addictions, your shortcomings, your hopes.

Stepping into God’s grace means accepting that God loves you just the way you are (tweet this).

My life was a mess before I met Jesus Christ. Even after I gave my heart to Him I had a hard time receiving His grace. I had this warped belief that I had to act a certain way for God to love me.

It was very challenging for me to step into the waterfall of God’s grace because it was difficult for me to believe that God really loved me. This was because I had always had a very low self image. I was projecting my definition of myself onto what I believed God’s definition of me was.

I had to believe by faith that what the Bible had to say was written for me. Once I started surrendering the lies about myself that I had believed all my life, something within me shifted and I began to see myself the way God sees me.

I allowed God’s grace to fill me up by seeing myself through His perspective and not my own.

Stepping into God’s grace begins with surrendering yourself completely to Jesus.

Let go of whatever it is that is holding you back from God’s peace.

Hand it all over to Jesus and trust Him with your life.

Admit your weakness to yourself and to God.

Simply step into the waterfall of God’s grace. And stay there.

God will be glorified and you will be set free.

Leave me a comment below on what and why it is hard for you to  completely surrender to God.

“But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.” ~ Acts 20:24
