Don’t Give Up – Finding Peace In Life’s Struggles

Life with all it’s challenges, can sometimes feel like an uphill climb.  With every trial you face, you may feel drained, as if you are climbing a mountain but never reaching the top.

Whatever your struggle may be, the truth is we all long for a sense of inner peace (Tweet this).

So, how do you find inner peace in the midst of life’s weariness?

Here are 8 ways I have gained more serenity in my everyday life.

1. Live Life One Day at a Time

This was not easy for me at first. It meant I had to control my thoughts and learn to focus on today only. Living in the past can bring regret, fear or sadness. If we live in the future we may have worry or anxiety.

Live in today, in this moment.

2. Focus on Facts

Learn to be aware of your thoughts. Make sure you aren’t making things up, but are focusing on what the truth is.

3. Surrender to God

It is often very hard to trust God with our lives, relationships and circumstances. We tend to be “control freaks” by nature and want to control everything and everyone. In order to have peace, however, trusting God is the best thing we can do.

Only God has control. Take your hands off of the steering wheel and let Him have full reign. The wisest thing you can do is to pray. Let Him take care of the rest.

4. Live your life with a “no secret” Policy.

You absolutely cannot have peace if you are walking around with secrets. We are as sick as our secrets. This is why confession is so powerful.

Regular confession is the pathway to a pure heart, and hence, to freedom.

5. Have an Attitude of Gratitude

Living a life of gratitude is the secret to living a full and content life.  Make thanking God a daily discipline. Gratitude lists are wonderful too.

6. Live by Faith not by Fear

Fear is a powerful emotion that can paralyze and hinder you from living a full life.  Face your fears by strengthening your faith in Jesus Christ. Know who you are in Christ and again, be aware of your thoughts.

7. The Courage to Change

You may not realize it, but it takes courage to discipline yourself to make the necessary changes you need to make. Accepting that you do not have a lot of control over much of life also takes courage.

I absolutely love the “Serenity Prayer.” Most of you know the short version but you may not know the longer one.  I urge you to take a moment to meditate on the it’s words as they are very powerful.

8. Progress not Perfection

I tend to be a perfectionist and can be very hard on myself when I make mistakes. It’s important to stay focused on the progress I have made instead of on trying to do everything right.

Learn to extend grace to yourself when you make mistakes. Learn from your mistakes and move on.

You are more than a conqueror because Jesus is with you. Always remember to ask Him for the strength and hope you need. He is faithful and will encourage and guide you.

Celebrate the life God has given you.

Never give up. Find the strength and hope you need In Jesus (Isaiah 40:29).

He will never give up on you (Philippians 1:6).

Be excited for the plans He has for you.

Even if you feel you are slipping down that mountain of life, hold on to Jesus and keep climbing.

Please leave me a comment below and share your victories. How have you found inner peace?

Thanks Tweens! Wisdom and many principles from recovery like “The Serenity Prayer.” I’m walking out Romans 12: 1-2 by God’s grace through faith. HIS love never fails!

I truly thank you for this. It has helped me in ways, you will never know. I am focused and I know though things are not right in my life at this point, but with Jesus all is well.
